The Blue Porch Bed and Breakfast is only three short blocks from the Newkirk Avenue Q and B train lines of the New York City transit system and only a 30-minute train ride from midtown Manhattan (see www.mta.info for subway information and maps). The fare is now $2.25 per trip, and as of December 30, 2010, unlimited-ride MetroCards are available at the station for 7 days ($29) and 30 days ($104). Also, if you buy a pay-per-ride card for $10 or more, they will add 7% to your card, so if you buy a card for $10, it will be worth $10.70. By CarFrom Manhattan: Take the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Prospect Expressway. (Stay in left lane to access the Prospect Expressway.) The Prospect Expressway becomes Ocean Parkway. Turn left onto Foster Avenue. Continue on Foster Avenue for 5 traffic lights. Turn right onto Rugby Road. Within one short block, turn left onto DeKoven Court. 15 DeKoven Court is the second house on the left. From Northern New Jersey via I-80: Take I-80 East. Follow signs to the George Washington Bridge. Once you are on the bridge, stay in the extreme right lane. Exit at the Henry Hudson Parkway (H Hudson Parkway) ramp. As you follow the exit ramp, be sure to watch for signs that will direct you to Henry Hudson Parkway Downtown. Once you are on the Parkway headed downtown, the Hudson River will be on your right for a little less than 11 miles. Because of construction around the World Trade Center site, traffic is sometimes re-routed, so look for signs (usually on your left) for the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Then follow the directions above for traveling from Manhattan. From Southern New Jersey: Take the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) north to exit 13. Take I-278E across the Goethals Bridge. Continue on I-278E across Staten Island to the Verrazano Narrows Bridge across New York Harbor. Take the upper level of the bridge and get into the left lane, which will put you onto the Belt Parkway heading east. Take exit 5 from the Belt Parkway to Bay Parkway. At the traffic light, turn left onto Bay Parkway and continue for 2.4 miles. Turn right at Avenue J. Turn left at Ocean Parkway. Turn right at Foster Avenue. Continue on Foster Avenue for 5 traffic lights. Turn right onto Rugby Road. Within one short block, turn left onto DeKoven Court. 15 DeKoven Court is the second house on the left. From La Guardia Airport (18 miles): Take the Grand Central Parkway West to the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) West. Once you' re on the BQE, stay in the center lane. Exit left at the Prospect Expressway. The Prospect Expressway becomes Ocean Parkway. Turn left onto Foster Avenue. Continue on Foster Avenue for 5 traffic lights. Turn right onto Rugby Road. Within one short block, turn left onto DeKoven Court. 15 DeKoven Court is the second house on the left. From John F. Kennedy Airport (12 miles): Take the Belt Parkway West. Exit at Ocean Parkway North (exit 7B). Turn right onto Ocean Parkway. Continue for approximately 4.3 miles. Turn right onto Foster Avenue. Continue on Foster Avenue for 5 traffic lights. Turn right onto Rugby Road. Within one short block, turn left onto DeKoven Court. 15 DeKoven Court is the second house on the left. By SubwayFrom Manhattan: Take the Q or B train to the Newkirk Avenue station in Brooklyn. (Note: The B train runs weekdays from 6 am to 11:00 pm. The Q train runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.) Turn left when you exit through the turnstile and left again when you exit the station doors. Pass the Chase Bank and turn right onto Foster Avenue. Cross Marlborough Road, walk another block down Foster Avenue, and cross Foster at its intersection with Rugby Road. Walk down Rugby Road in the direction of traffic, and after 4 houses on your left, turn left onto DeKoven Court. 15 DeKoven Court is the second house on the left.
